The ultimate planting solution
Plant 1,200 acres each day!* The 8R and 8RX 440, 490, and 540 give you the power needed to increase implement width and speed. This productivity along with John Deere’s precision ag and high speed planters give you the chance to get all your seed in the ground during the optimal planting window. These tractors can give you an agronomic advantage that keeps you competitive in the market.
*Planting 1,200 acres each day is based on internal testing of an 8R 490 with Peak Power Intelligent Power Management (IPM) pulling a DB90 at 20.1 km/h (12.5 mph) over 12.3 hours with 80 percent efficiency.
Get the most out of every pass
Eliminate 30 percent of pinch rows each spring!* The 8R and 8RX 440, 490, and 540 give you the power needed to increase implement width. By increasing the planter width you can make fewer passes in a field which results in fewer pinch rows. This lowers the number of crops that have localised compaction next to them during planting resulting in a 2-3 percent yield increase.
*Numbers based on a square 80 acre field (1,867 ft. X 1,867 ft.). If planted with a 24R 76 cm (30 in.) spacing on a 1775 with an 8R 410 with row crop duals it would take 32 passes. If you use a 36R 76 cm (30 in.) spacing on a DB90 with an 8R 540 with row crop duals it only takes 21 passes. That is 11 passes less or a reduction of 34 percent in pinch rows caused by the tractor tires in the field.
Prepare to be amazed
Prepare 40 percent more ground.* The 8R and 8RX 440, 490, and 540 series tractors carry on the legacy of John Deere and were designed to work for you. They give you unmatched power in a versatile row crop tractor. Easily transport the tractor to your field and then confidently maneuver the tractor around obstacles and at the end of each pass with speed and precision. You’ll have no problem staying ahead of the planter with these work horses.
*Preparing 40 percent more acres per hour is based on internal testing of an 8R 490 with a HSD35 going 18.5 km/h (11.5 mph) vs. an 8R 410 with and HSD25 going 18.2 km/h (11.3 mph) in the same field with both being maxed out at 100 percent load.
Turn to gr8ness
Run circles inside the competition. No longer do you have to choose between power and maneuverability. We drew a line in the dirt around maintaining a tight turning radius. The rigid, but narrow frame on the 8R 440, 490 and 540 was intentionally designed so these tractors can turn on a dime. For reference the 8R 440-540 with row crop duals has a turn radius of 8.3 m (27.3 ft) while the 8R 410 has a very similar turn radius of 7.9 m (26 ft). The 8R 440-540 also has a 19 percent tighter turning radius* when compared to similar tractors in this horsepower class.
*Based on internal testing of an 8R 540 and Fendt 1050 with 380 front duals spaced at 152.4 cm (60 in.) / 204.8 cm (120 in.).
Haul more in less time
Cut time. Boost productivity. Spread smarter. Apply in 30 percent less* time! Peak Power Intelligent Power Management (IPM) coupled with the Electric Variable Transmission (EVT) in this high horsepower 8R tractor allows you to accelerate quickly with larger tanks going down the road while also being able to apply at higher speeds in the fields. This leads to getting more done in a shorter time window while also maximising your agronomic advantage.
*Based on a customer test in Northwest Iowa comparing an 8R 410 with a 10,000 gallon GEA tanker to an 8R 540 with a 14 row 35 foot width 14,500 gallon Nuhn tanker with a 3,000 gpm power take-off (PTO) driven solution pump. Both ran at similar engine loads and application rates. The 8R 540 covered 39.4 acres / hour vs. the 8R 410 which covered 26.5 acres / hour. This means the 8R 540 was 49 percent more productive which equates to 30 percent less time in the field.
Stay grounded
With even larger implements being pulled behind the 8R 440-540 tractors the central tire inflation system (CTIS) is becoming even more valuable for customers. For example, when pulling a DB90 there can be a difference of 20 psi between the suggested transport tire pressures and field tire pressures.* What makes this so impactful is that studies** show a tractor planting with 20 psi less in their tires can see a boost of 4.5 bushels per acre. Because of this CTIS allows customers to maximise the profitability of every acre they cover.
*Pressures are based off the suggested rear tire PSI for an 8R 540 with duals hooked up to a DB90 while in transport which is 26.1 psi vs a suggested field psi for that setup of 5.8 psi.
